Cross-Canada fund-raiser to visit AUPE members on Edmonton leg of
run
EDMONTON Cross-Canada runner Ann Keane who is raising
money for the Hope Foundation will visit front-line health care
workers from the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees when she jogs
through Edmonton Aug. 14.
Keane is running from coast to coast to raise money for the Edmonton-based
foundation, which was set up a decade ago to study the effects of hope
in health care, education and other fields.
The foundation, affiliated with the University of Edmonton, also runs
a "hope-focused" counseling program.
Keane, a 38-year-old Edmonton nurse, started her cross-country run in
Newfoundland in April and hopes to complete it in British Columbia next
month. She reached Calgary on Aug. 7, expects to pass through the Red
Deer area on Aug. 11 and to arrive in Edmonton on Aug. 14.
She will be at the Hope Foundations headquarters at 11032 89th
Ave. on the University of Alberta campus at about 11 a.m. on Aug. 14.
Around 1 p.m., she plans to visit front-line AUPE health care workers
who will be holding a barbecue at the Capital Care Group Lynnwood facility,
8740 165th Street, to draw attention to funding needs in continuing
care.
"We certainly admire the heroic effort of Ms. Keane in her support
for this cause," said AUPE President Dan MacLennan. "AUPE
will be showing our support of her effort with a donation to the Hope
Foundation."
Anyone interested in Keanes run can visit her web site at www.PowerofPeopleRun.com
(the capital letters are required to reach this Web address). Donations
can be made on-line at that site.
