AUPE, Municipal District of Mackenzie ratify new two-year contract
FORT VERMILION Members of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees
and the council of the Municipal District of Mackenzie No. 23 have both
ratified a new two-year collective agreement that gives the employees
a five-per-cent raise in the first year and a four-per-cent raise in the
second.
"The M.D.s council and management made a sincere effort to
work with the union in a co-operative manner, and we are very pleased
with the progress we are making toward building a positive relationship
with this employer," said AUPE President Dan MacLennan.
"This contract is evidence of that relationship," MacLennan
said.
In addition to the pay increases of five per cent and four per cent, the
agreement includes grade adjustments, improvements in health benefits
and improved contract language related to acting incumbency, said AUPE
Union Representative Brian Randall.
"This round of negotiations proved to be a very positive experience
for both parties," Randall said.
"It really showed the way these things can be done, and the way we
hope to do them in the future."
About 40 members of AUPE are employed by the M.D. of Mackenzie. That number
rises to about 65 during the summer months.
The M.D. of Mackenzie No. 23 encompasses a large area of Albertas
northwestern region, and includes the communities of Fort Vermilion, High
Level, La Crete, Rainbow Lake and Zama City.
