AUPE wins vote by unit in Bow Island

EDMONTON – Staff at a small health centre in southern Alberta have voted to have the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees as their union.

About 35 employees at the Bow Island Health Centre in Bow Island, between Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, voted overwhelmingly to have AUPE as their certified bargaining agent Friday.

"We’re very pleased with the vote in Bow Island, which shows again that working people in the health services sector recognize the value of union membership," AUPE President Dan MacLennan said after the votes were counted.

The Bow Island Health Centre employees work as licensed practical nurses and nursing aides in front-line nursing care.
