AUPE reaches out to younger members through Web-based survey
EDMONTON The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees is reaching
out to its younger members through an Internet-based survey.
"We need to get younger members involved in AUPE so that we will
continue to grow and become stronger as a union," said AUPE President
Dan MacLennan. "We will be using this Web-based survey as one tool
for identifying younger members and encouraging them to become active
in AUPE."
The survey will be launched tomorrow, April 17, on AUPEs Web site
aupe.org.
The aim of the survey, an initiative of AUPEs newly formed Youth
Mobilization Committee, is to identify union members under 30 years
of age, discover what their work-related concerns and priorities are
and help them to get involved in union activities, said AN AUPE Vice-President,
chairperson of the committee.
"We know there are many younger members who may not know how to
get involved in their union and we want to assist them in playing an
active role and make them feel welcome," S said.
"We know that youth will bring new ideas, a refreshing perspective
and an energetic commitment to AUPE," S said.
"The survey is one way to achieve this goal and also to learn about
their ideas and to identify their goals for AUPE," he said.
S said the Youth Mobilization Committee, which was formed on the instructions
of AUPEs annual convention last January, wants to help young members
connect with one another to generate discussions, activities and gatherings.
