Special Olympics Alberta
It was a proud day for AUPE Aug. 23, as Alberta's largest union pledged its support of a worthy organization, Special Olympics Alberta. AUPE pledged $25,000 to Special Olympics and also agreed to support a province-wide strategy to recruit athletes and volunteers. "This is a worthy cause from which a large number of Albertans in every corner of our province will benefit," said AUPE President Dan MacLennan, who participated in a morning news conference, held at the St. Albert Bowling Centre to announce the partnership. "As a province-wide union, we are always aware that we serve all citizens of Alberta, and this contribution of finances and support extends that service in new ways." AUPE's contribution was overwhelmingly endorsed by the union's Provincial Executive.
