Local 071/013 holds information picket

Close to 150 AUPE members came out to participate in an information picket May 30 organized by Local 071/013 to protest plans by the Edmonton Catholic Separate School District to lay off employees who work in the plants, operations and maintenance department. " Something is wrong when the expectation is that our members clean classrooms within a five-minute time span," said AUPE Membership Services Officer Lynn Gough, who provides union services to the Local. "Edmontonians who have their children in Catholic schools should expect to have desks wiped more than once a week," said Gough, who also took part in the information picket. "I'm proud to see our members stand up and show the board that they too deserve dignity and respect for all the hard work they provide to try to keep school's clean and healthy for our children," she said. Gough said additional actions are currently being considered by AUPE.
