Hundreds take part in May Day march
EDMONTON - Hundreds of workers marched down Whyte Avenue May 1 as part of May Day celebrations that were held in Alberta's Capital City. This year’s march honoured the courage and solidarity of the Palace Casino employees, who have been on strike for fair wages for nearly eight months. The casino workers shut down their picket line for several hours to take part in the march. AUPE members and staff also participated in the march, as did several other labour and progressive organizations, which garnered extensive media coverage. Following the march, a rally at End of Steel Park featured performances by the dynamic Edmonton group Eshod Ibn Wyza, AUPE’s own Guy Smith, and Lex and the People’s Poets.
