Cold Lake Area Council Bunnock Tournment
No bones about it! The Cold Lake Area Council's recent Bunnock Tournament was great fun for the close to 50 participants that competed in the full-day event. Held June 24th at Cold Lake's Imperial Park, members and their families came out and participated in the Bunnock tourney, a game that combines attributes of both horseshoes and bowling. At one time, the game was played using horse ankle bones, though in most cases today, including the Cold Lake event, plastic bannocks are now used. The game of Bunnock consists of two parallel rows of bones, each row consisting of two guards and 20 bannocks. There are a total of eight throwers. The object of the game is to knock down the opposition’s bones beginning with the guards. The team that knocks down the opposition’s bones first, with the least number of shots, will be declared the winner. Played under beautiful, sunny skies, the Cold Lake Area Council tournament was also followed by a dinner and dance.
