Child and Family Services Rally
The message from more than 100 AUPE members was loud and clear today in Red Deer: the provincial government must address heavy caseloads and understaffing issues facing Child and Family Services workers, before a tragedy occurs. "Understaffing, shorter timelines for intervention and heavier workloads all put families and children at risk," said AUPE President Doug Knight, who also participated in a lunch-hour information picket Jan. 26 outside of the Red Deer Provincial Building. "AUPE members want to ensure that it doesn’t take a tragedy to get the action needed to fix this critical situation." Local 006 members, social services workers who are directly employed by the provincial government, as well as AUPE delegates to a General Service Bargaining Conference being held nearby, took part in the boisterous lunch-hour information picket.
