Anti-Privatization Ammunition
More than 50 AUPE members from throughout the province took part in a one-day Anti-Privatization Seminar held June 15 at Edmonton’s South Delta Inn. Guest speakers including independent policy analyst Wendy Armstrong and AUPE Reserach Officer Aaron Mireau, delivered presentations regarding the privatization of various government services from utilities to healthcare. Armstrong was especially frank about the Alberta government’s strategy regarding long-term care, calling it "the biggest asset grab" that she’s ever seen by any level of government. The one-day seminar was organized by AUPE’s Anti-Privatization Committee, which is Chaired by union Vice-President Ron Whan.
