OH&S Advocate Training

AUPE has recently introduced an education stream specifically for union members interested in occupational health and safety. The OH&S Advocate program has three levels. To become an OH&S Advocate Level III, a member must complete five courses: Introduction to Your Union, Union Steward Level I, and then Occupational Health and Safety Advocate Levels I, II, and III. For more details on AUPE’s educational streams, please view this document.

OH&S Advocate Level I: This is an introductory Health and Safety course. Participants will gain knowledge in the basic principles of workplace health and safety and workers compensation (W.C.B.). This course will provide you with the critical tools and skills necessary to help prevent accidents, injuries and illnesses in your workplace. You will review Occupational Health and Safety legislation, Workers Compensation, and your collective agreement to understand what the Union Steward’s role is in this area.

OH&S Advocate Level II: The second level goes into more detail on the above topics.

OH&S Advocate Level III (Labour School only): The third level goes into more detail on the above topics.
